Yoga & I

It was cold winter midnight and chaos surrounded me. My parents rushed me to the hospital. Everything was moving fast and slow at the same time. I don’t remember when I closed my eyes but when I opened them I remember being surrounded by the sounds all around me and an uncomfortable pain in my right hand through which they had connected me to fluids.

This was almost 10 years ago. I had been diagnosed with asthma since birth and once when I stopped breathing during one of the attacks. That’s when I was admitted.

Ever since my grandmom took it upon herself to rid me of asthma. I was constantly made to meditate and do various breathing exercises. She would often take me to her yoga classes where all the other grandmas would make me do different types of yoga.

By the age of 9, I was healed with the magic of yoga!

After this experience, I truly believe that yoga should play an important role in youngsters.

Yoga helps kids with:-

1. Memory and concentration: Yoga helps with memorisation and concentration skills which in turn helps with overall academic performance.

2. Strength and flexibility: Children have growing bodies that become stronger with the help of yoga and also avoid injuries.

3. Awareness and mindfulness: Various yoga poses help children learn about their bodies and what they are capable of.

4. Discipline and reduces impulsivity: Yoga provides a physical outlet for any bottled up emotions.

After just one yoga class here is what my students have to say!

“Attending yoga with Rujul was a wonderful experience. She has very good knowledge about each aasana and explains the benefits along with showing the students how to perform the aasana. She prepares herself well before the sessions and also shares aasanas that we can perform if we have any health issue. She is a very positive trainer and encourages the students. My flexibility improved after attending the sessions with Rujul, my backpain also reduced a lot.”

“Dear Rujul Dayakar, Thank you for teaching me Yoga. It was an amazing experience. Your skills, and method of inputs with patience for a Senior Citizen like me have helped in managing my Blood Sugar levels, Blood Pressure an improving my fitness and overall health. Regards. God bless you!”
